SSCA offers a variety of special events in Sunnyvale involving both Iizuka and Sunnyvale communities. In the past we have held a cherry blossom picnic with bento lunches (known as hanami in Japan), cherry tree planting ceremonies in Sunnyvale schools and parks with trees donated by the Iizuka, as well as a innovative robotics class for middle school students taught by visiting university students from Iizuka.

March 31, 2018, Braly Park, 1:00PM-3:00PM - Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) Potluck Picnic

Join us for lunch at Braly Park for a traditional Japanese celebration of the beginning of spring and admire the blooming of the cherry trees that were donated by Iizuka.

Since it is a potluck this year, there is no fee for the picnic. The SSCA will be providing a few traditional dishes and non-alcoholic drinks, but would like to invite you to bring a main dish, appetizer, or dessert.

To help narrow down what to bring, please see the following guidelines. If your last name begins with:

  • A to H: please bring an appetizer serving 15 people
  • I to P: please bring a main dish serving 10 people
  • Q to Z: please bring a dessert serving 10 people

If you would like to come, please sign up by March 27th letting us know who you're coming with and what you plan to bring. Each party should bring one item.
